WEEKLY HOMEWORK:
Problem of the Week (Due Friday)
Students will receive a Problem of the Week (POW) worksheet every Tuesday or Wednesday. It will involve a mathematical problem solving activity. They may need your help with this. All work must be shown. The POW is due every Friday, beginning September 16.
Slice of Life (Due Mondays)
This is a writing activity. Their assignment is to write a "Slice of Life" story. A Slice of Life story is a story about a small, tiny event that has happened in their lives. They should make the story as entertaining as possible and should use their best writing skills--using details, dialogue, action, etc. It doesn't have to have a problem or a plot, it just needs to describe a small "slice" of their life. It can be something that occurred recently, or something that happened awhile ago. Here are some examples:

Book of the Month Update (Due Mondays)
Each month, students will be reading a book they've chosen based upon a theme. (Examples: fantasy books, books with boring covers, books with over 250 pages, etc.) Every Monday, they'll need to provide an update of their progress.
Reading Letter (Due on assigned day)
This will be assigned by the students' Reading Workshop teacher. This assignment will not begin until late September, at the earliest.
